Hello! Below you can find answers to our most frequently asked questions.
How do I cancel my membership?
You can cancel your membership at any time by following the steps below. Note that the cancellation will go into effect right away.
1) Login to your ADX account
2) Click on “Howdy, [Your Name]” in the top right corner
3) Click “Profile”
4) Click “Payments” near the top
5) Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up menu and click “Cancel”
You did it! You can follow these same steps if you need to edit your payment information.
Which membership is the best one for me?
Your membership choice depends on which shops you need access to and how frequently you need access to them. You can use our Find Your Fit tool to find the best option for you.
Can I change my membership plan?
You sure can! The best way to change your membership is to cancel your current membership towards the end of your billing cycle, then re-register for the level you wish to change to. If you wish to upgrade your membership in the middle of your billing cycle, contact email@example.com.
Does ADX offer discounts?
ADX is proud to offer students, seniors (55+), and members of the military 15% off of monthly memberships. These discounts are restricted to membership payments and are available for classes or fabrication services. These discounts cannot be combined with other membership offers (eg. If you pay annually and are eligible for the 20% annual discount, a student discount cannot also be applied). Non-profits may be eligible for a discounted Fabrication rate.

Do members have access to a CNC?
We have a 5 ft x 10 ft member-use CNC in the Wood Shop. An orientation is required before use; after successful completion, you may schedule time at the front desk. Stay tuned for a plasma CNC in the Metal Shop provided by CNC Router Parts, scheduled for installation by October 2017.
Does ADX sell materials?
ADX does not sell raw materials like wood or steel, but we can point you in the right direction. If you’re in the middle of a project and desperate, ADX sells a small selection of critical consumables like MIG welding tips and jewelry solder. Check out our Partners page for a list of preferred suppliers and available materials discounts with local suppliers.

Gunsmithing & Firearms Policy
Weapons are not allowed on ADX property. The manufacturing of firearms or firearms parts and accessories at ADX is strictly prohibited.
I’m looking for a specific tool. Do you have it?
Check out our Facilities page online for a list of specific tools, and stop by for a public tour to see the tools in person.
I don’t want a membership, but want access. Can I just buy a day pass?
ADX does not offer daily or hourly access options – the minimum membership term is one month. One of ADX’s greatest assets is its community, and we find that it’s difficult to foster that community when folks don’t spend more than a day in the shop.
I have a Basic Membership, but I need access to the Metal/Wood/Print/Jewelry shop to finish my project. Can you help?
If you need short-term access to any of the Add On Shops, you can turn your Basic Membership into an Unlimited Membership for the day with a Shop Pass! The cost is $40 for one day, or you can save by purchasing a Shop Pass punch card and receive 5 passes for $100. Just a reminder, Shop Passes never expire but you need an active membership to use. Purchase online or inquire at the front desk.
How can I buy a class or membership for someone else?
If you’re interested in registering a friend or family member for a class or membership, we suggest purchasing a gift certificate for the membership/class total so that they can sign up in their name at their convenience. All ADX members should have their own ADX account, so we don’t suggest buying a membership in your name if it’s for another person.
Do you offer storage space?
We offer a variety of storage options for your materials and projects, from day-use to monthly rentals. For more infomation, email firstname.lastname@example.org
The class I’m interested in has already started or is over, when is it happening again?
Most Standard Classes are offered at least once or twice a month. Check the Class Catalog for an automatically updated list of all up upcoming class dates and times.
I’m taking a class. Do I need to take a New Member Orientation before the class?
Anyone using tools on their own at ADX must take a New Member Orientation first. You do NOT need to take the NMO before attending a class, because your tool use will be supervised by an instructor. If you signed up for a Nonmember ticket for an Intro class, your ticket comes with a month of membership to the corresponding shop, which starts on the first day of class. In this case, we encourage students to attend a NMO before class on order to make the most of their Complimentary Membership.
I’m curious about 3D printing. Can I take a class or work with someone One-on-One?
While we have a Makerbot Replicator at ADX, we do not offer formal classes on 3D printing. Eager to learn what you can on your own? Purchase a Basic Membership and have access to the tool for self-directed learning. Bring your own filament, or purchase stock from ADX.
The class I want to take is sold out. Is there a waitlist?
Classes are limited to 4 students to ensure lots of hands-on time with the tools and personal attention from the instructor. If the class is sold out but you’re still interested in this particular class, we can add your name to a waitlist and will contact you if a ticket becomes available. Email email@example.com for more information.
Can I work with a instructor privately?
We work with a bevy of skilled makers excited to engage with you on your project, teach you new skills, or cover content from any Standard Class. Tell us what you’re interested in, and we’ll find someone excited to help! One-on-One Instruction is booked at $60/hr for members and $75/hr for non-members. After the first 4 hours, a 10% discount is applied to any time remaining until project completion. Interested in a custom One-on-One class with an ADX instructor? Fill out our contact form and we’ll get you set up!
I’m trying to sign up for a class but it’s making me buy a membership. What do I do?
While members typically save at least 30% from Nonmember ticket prices, you are welcome to attend a class without purchasing a membership. Note that the Nonmember ticket to any Intro class comes with a complimentary month of membership; this is a great way to dive right into the ADX community!
Are you open today?
Probably. ADX is open M-F 9am-10pm, and Sa-Su 9am-9pm. We are closed on New Year’s Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. In the case of inclement weather, ADX typically follows the Portland Public Schools system. If they are closed due to inclement weather, we probably are too.
Do you offer gift certificates?
We sure do! Gift certificates can be purchased online, over the phone, or in person for any amount. You can pick one up in person, or we can mail you a physical certificate.
How do I redeem a gift certificate?
You can redeem your gift certificate in person or over the phone. Be sure to bring the gift certificate with you or cite the serial number (located in the bottom lefthand corner) at the time of redemption. Gift certificates cannot be redeemed online at this time.
Are kids allowed at ADX?
As an active manufacturing facility, we have limited opportunities for youth, though we strive to provide access when and where we can to motivated young makers. Students ages 16 and 17 are eligible for membership and to take Standard Classes with a guardian’s waiver on file. Youth ages 13-15 may sign up for membership and/or take classes with a (paying) guardian present. ADX does not presently offer programming for students age 12 and younger. All youth memberships and Standard Class registrations must be approved by ADX staff. To apply for approval, complete this Youth Programming Request form.
