Woodturning is not only an incredibly satisfying process, it’s a ton of fun! This skill-based class gives you hands-on time on the lathe under the direct supervision of an experienced wood turner. The different types of knives, gouges, and chisels are demonstrated and practiced, also learning how to sharpen and keep sharp using safe, proper cutting techniques.

Make a book out of wood in a way you never thought possible. In this 4 hour class, you will choose your selection of wood for pages and covers and turn it into a small book that can be used for a variety of things!

Ever wanted to print your own fabric pattern, wallpaper or poster? This series is for you! In this 2-class series, you’ll learn how to create a repeating pattern using a variety of media. You’ll then learn how to print that pattern onto any flat surface.

NW Materials Show

Interested in apparel, footwear or textile design and fabrication? Then come say hi to us and Portland Apparel Lab at this year’s NW Materials Show! We’ll have a booth set up in the MADE section of the exhibit. We’ll be hanging out with Portland Apparel Lab, DIY Bar, and other great makers while offering free consultations for people interested in learning more about our makerspace and fabrication options.

If you work in the manufacturing or maker world then you won’t want to miss this upcoming conference sponsored by Prosper Portland and the Central Eastside Industrial Council (CEIC). The conference will consist of two events:

1). Presentations by guest speakers from School House Electric, Autodesk and OMEP around lean/efficiency improvement, innovation, and business development.
2). A series of 20-minute roundtable discussions where you will meet seven other manufacturers and makers, tell your story and discuss production, innovation, business intelligence and more before moving onto another table.

Portland Made: Maker Meetup

When Newspace Photography center closed back in July of 2017 it was a huge loss for the community. Luckily, a group of passionate ex-Newspace members decided to launch a crowdsourcing campaign to help fund the purchasing of Newspace’s old equipment. Their campaign was successful and thanks to supporters there is once more a community space for photographers! Find out more information about their equipment and membership options above.
