leather working basics: make your own belt

march 9th, 6-10pm


Design, finish, and style your very own leather belt, all in one evening! Learn how to properly size a belt, cut leather using a strap cutter, bevel and burnish edges, thin leather using a skiving tool, use strap-end and hole punching tools, secure hardware, and dye and finish the leather.

lathe tool basics

Woodturning is not only an incredibly satisfying process, it’s a ton of fun! This skill-based class gives you hands-on time on the lathe under the direct supervision of an experienced wood turner. The different types of knives, gouges, and chisels are demonstrated and practiced, also learning how to sharpen and keep sharp using safe, proper cutting techniques.

Join us at our ANX Gallery for the First Friday opening of March’s Gallery of Makers exhibition. Gallery of Makers features the creative pursuits of ADX member, staff and alumni. Free cider provided by Portland Cider Co.

back fence pdx: mainstage

Our friends at Back Fence PDX are celebrating their 10th year of live storytelling! To celebrate, they are selling tickets at the throwback price of $10. The theme for March’s Mainstage show is TRANSPLANTS and will feature a Kidney Donor and Donee telling their story in tandem. A percentage of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Donate Life NW. manufacturer and Maker conference

If you work in the manufacturing or maker world then you won’t want to miss this upcoming conference sponsored by Prosper Portland and the Central Eastside Industrial Council (CEIC). The conference will consist of two events:

1). Presentations by guest speakers from School House Electric, Autodesk and OMEP around lean/efficiency improvement, innovation, and business development.
2). A series of 20-minute roundtable discussions where you will meet seven other manufacturers and makers, tell your story and discuss production, innovation, business intelligence and more before moving onto another table.

This is set to be a fantastic chance to meet other makers and manufacturers and to learn some tips and tricks from the pros! Download the conference program to learn more about the event.

new maker path: Jewelry Stone Setting

6-months of membership + intro to jewelry + soldering basics + cabochon ring series


Humans have been making jewelry for thousands of years. Now, it’s your turn! Embark on our Stone Setting Path and you’ll learn all the skills necessary to make beautiful, stone set rings and more.

On this path, you’ll start out learning the fundamentals of jewelry making with our intro course. Then, you’ll learn the basics of soldering small metals. Finally, you’ll spend two days crafting your own Cabochon stone ring utilizing all the skills you’ve learned and practiced within your six-month tenure. Learn more about all of our Maker Paths here!
