Fabrication Finisher

Seeking Skilled Finisher to join the Fabrication Team

ADX is a hub for collaboration where individuals and organizations make and learn. By sharing tools, knowledge, and experience, we’re doing things better – working together. Our makerspace, learning center, and custom fabrication shop allow anyone to bring their idea to life. In our 24,000-square foot facilities, high-profile designers work alongside students, retirees share their knowledge with novice builders, and entrepreneurs collaborate with hobbyists.

The Fabrication Team is seeking a Finisher who will be responsible for tasks delegated to him/her by the Fabrication Manager and supported by the Fabrication Leads. This full-time position begins immediately.

Successful candidates have the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively and are committed to supporting the growing community of makers at ADX.

Position Responsibilities

  • Pre-finish preparation (sanding) and finishing of materials before or after CNC or laser machining as defined in process outline for each job and at the direction of Fabrication Leads
  • Develop and test continuous improvement procedures surrounding the execution of jobs while utilizing current shop resources to their maximum potential
  • Optimize current finish services and develop future offerings to extend our finishing abilities in-house
  • Arrange logistics for outsource clear coating batches / execute quality assurance
  • All shop floor related procedures (materials intake, documentation filing, and regular shop organization)
  • Accurately maintain and complete a daily timecard
  • Report all near misses, incidents, or accidents to the Fabrication Manager
  • Promptly report any and all problems with projects as well as any needed supplies
  • Able to comfortably walk, stand or sit for four (4) plus hours a day
  • Ability to make repetitive hand movement, such as typing
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 1 year of finishing experience, preferably in a wood shop
  • Stains, hand painting, HVLP spray gun clear coat applications
  • Extensive orbital sanding experience
  • Ability to use woodworking or metal machinery within a safe operating capacity
  • Basic understanding of wood fabrication and an interest in learning more
  • High level of individual initiative required, including the ability to work successfully with limited supervision and resolve practical problems in collaboration with the Fabrication Lead
  • Strong written and analytical skills, with accuracy and attention to detail paramount
  • Excellent organizational skills, enabling you to consistently meet daily goals
  • A collaborative attitude and ability to work in a team environment within a nontraditional space
  • Full-time position starts at $14/hour with opportunity for growth
