Charlie Haughey in The Big Picture

March 25, 2013

In advance of Charlie Haughey’s April 5th First Friday photography show, A Weather Walked In, the Boston Globe’s photography blog The Big Picture is featuring his work.

Haughey, a regular fixture at ADX (you may have seen his impressive wooden spheres on display next to his workshop), served a tour in Vietnam from March 1968 to May 1969 with the Twenty-Fifty Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. His commanding officer commissioned Haughey to take morale-boosting photos of his fellow soldiers. The more than two thousand negatives Haughey brought back from Vietnam have never been shown publicly before.

Fox 12 Oregon television did a recent story of Haughey’s photos and how a partnership with ADX member Kris Regentin led to the show. The project has its own Tumblr, with more photos and quotations from Haughey. Congratulations to Charlie and Kris for their great work!
