Note From Founder kelley Roy
Hello ADX Community,
Welcome to fall and what a beautiful fall it is. Gorgeous sunshine, falling leaves, and light casting long shadows. I have been noticing a little pick up in activity around the shop now that everyone is back from their summer adventures. We have seen some pretty cool projects come through the shop over the summer including a few van builds, some motorcycle tune-ups and customizing, and lots of beautiful furniture for some of our local design shows (Street Seats and Show PDX!). We also have a handful of new members in the shop that are working on some prototypes and they are going to be on hand this Sunday, September 30 from 6-8 to walk through their projects and get feedback from you. Read more below for the details on that.
We also have a few more spaces for rent in each of our workspaces. On the Factory Floor in the main ADX facility, a few studios in our new Studio 425 space, two more larger spaces available in our Pro space. Click through to our website for more details on those and to schedule an appointment to take a look. Join our community of thinkers and makers and watch your enthusiasm grow!
Check out our Shop Life profile on member Dave who is making incredible artwork from upcycled cans. His story is not to be missed and you can follow our Instagram to get the latest information about where his beautiful cans are being sold out on the streets of Portland.
As always, the best way to get into ADX and start making is through our classes. We have Standard Class offerings, custom, and one-on-one programs as well as standard and custom group experiences. Learn how to safely use the tools to bring your ideas to life amongst a community of incredible humans and extraordinary makers.
I look forward to seeing you around the shop. Here’s to lifelong learning and working together!

Space for rent at adx
ADX has recently taken on a new member who is so excited to be part of the ADX community! He cares about access to $100k worth of tools, access to our community kitchen, clean restrooms, an extensive array of free scraps to choose from as well as a supportive community interested in him as a maker and an artist. Dave explains daily how happy he is to have access to safe space to work on his craft, this is incredibly special to him because he is also a houseless artist. He is incredibly talented and inspiring. He works every morning at ADX to make his beautiful cans and in the afternoons heads out to sell his creations. We recently got an email from a friend who came across Dave selling his cans the other day, this is what she wrote:
“I was at New Seasons last weekend and stopped dead in my tracks at an artist selling incredible artwork, the neon geometric shapes on tuna cans, etc. I DIED. I bought three (one here pictured in my office) and quickly learned this is David, the artist at your space, who spoke so movingly about your help and generosity. He is extraordinarily talented. I’m hoping to work with him on another project. You are right. Something magical is going on here (not that I doubted! But how fortunate I was to see it with my own eyes)”
This story is what we live for here at ADX. Supporting those who otherwise may not have access to spaces and tools to facilitate the creation of art, goods and meaningful connections! This story is one of many examples of why ADX is great, and that is because it is made up of great members!
