Learn the basics of linoleum block printing while making an original block printed tea towel. This 4-hour workshop will cover basic design principles for successful linoleum block cutting techniques, and printing on both fabric and paper. Students are welcome to bring their own (simple) design, or choose from a variety of images provided by the instructor. Leave with an original block printed tea towel and a linoleum block you can use for printing at home or in the ADX Print Shop!
All materials, consumables and tools will be provided, including easy-cut linoleum blocks, ink for printing on fabric, transfer paper, flour sack tea towels, carving tools, brayers, disk barrens and a specially-designed padded table for printing on.
Rachel is an activist who uses art as her organizing work and an artist who engages in issues of racial and social justice. A primarily self-taught textile artist, her work spaces the divide between fine art and craft. She believes that traditional textile techniques, particularly quilting, can provide a fertile platform for creating dialog and understanding around complex ideas and issues.
